TIART: Spring Training Tips

This week's theme for Take It and Run Thursday at the Runner's Lounge is Spring Training Tips.

First of all, I was excited to see that the concept of "off months" is actually common and not just something I do. Granted, "off months" for some people might mean cutting back on mileage while for me, it means cutting back on exercise completely, but whatever.

So... I'll be honest - I don't have any tips for spring training other than just do it. I actually could use some good tips.

As I mentioned before, I'm not on any formal training plan but I do consider myself "in training" since I now have a bunch of fun events on my calendar.

Last week, I started being more disciplined with my workouts. So far, I'm doing pretty good this week as well but let me tell you, I am so tired! How do you guys do it??? I wish I could just workout every other day and have plenty of rest days :D

My body is still sore from the strength training class I took two days ago. I went spinning last night followed by some arm weights. Then this morning I went for a 4 mile run and I think my legs were telling me "agh... leave me alone!" And it's not like I'm doing anything strenuous. How am I going to deal with Goofy training later this year?

Oh well, I know my body is just getting used to the active exercise again so I will continue to power through. I'm already thinking about another event after the Cinderella Classic that will help keep me motivated with my workouts.

This morning's run...

ORN
4.0 miles
0:40:26
Avg pace: 10:06 min/mi
Avg hr: 163bpm

1: 10:09
2: 10:08
3: 10:23
4: 9:46

Oooooohhh I love me the "off" season. I admire those who can consistently train all year around but I'm one that needs a breaky break LOL

its so funny how things just seem different when you are in and out of training. i was just thinking about this... because just think back to a few months ago when you did a half marathon every weekend! i was thinking how right now mid week runs of 12 miles are whatever, but when i am not in training that just sounds crazy! its funny how our minds and body just adapt to things and how your focus changes when you are in and out of training.

lol if that made ANY sense at all :)

I love taking a break which means no workouts either! This girl needs mental and physical breaks. I don't know how I do it either when I'm training, some days I think I'm crazy :)

I'm running Cleveland marathon I just haven't signed up yet. I need to soon before the price goes up again.

My question is - how do people on the Biggest Loser do it?!? They work out ALL DAY LONG!

I stay sore after weight training for a really long time too! Maybe that's why I've been putting it off... Good for you, taking that strength class!

You are doing great. I can totally relate to the "off" season mentality. You have some fun races coming up. Keep working.

It's definitely hard to "believe in" the training in the beginning of the season when everything feels kind of rusty. I probably do rest more than other runners, though, since I do pretty much run every other day. That's the way I like it!

I have the same problem with working out every day. If I've done weights, then my legs are heavy and I'm slower than usual for a few days. I'm hoping eventually it will get easier, right??

I totally hear ya...I could NOT run crazy weekday mileage like Aron or my hubs. Though, I never thought I'd be able to do 8 miles on a weekday and what did I do yesterday? Oh yeah, 8 miles.

I feel like I have been in marathon training for a long time. After San Diego I'm looking forward to a break.
