I'm sooooo tired!!!

Do not fret, my pets, I am still working on those Goofy race reports. BUT in the meantime... here's a random topic.

It has now officially been three weeks since the Goofy challenge. From an exercise perspective, I've done NOTHING since then. And to be honest, it's been quite nice. I hope I don't alienate you guys, but I'm just not one of those people that need to run or work out all the time. I'm quite content being a couch potato. I'll be out there again soon enough but for now I'm just enjoying activities other than spending hours pounding the payment.

But here's the thing... lately, I have been soooooo tired. Ridiculously tired. I typically don't nap but there have been times recently when I've desperately wanted one. I'm ashamed to say I missed out on hanging out with friends one evening because I literally slept through it. And I was in a deep sleep, too - when I woke up, I could barely move. I sleep the same hours so what's the deal?

Well my friend pointed out that it's probably because I haven't been working out. And initially I thought that was weird since I know I get tired from working out. But then I read somewhere that you have a better quality of sleep when you exercise, i.e. deeper sleep, etc and that's why you end up being more well-rested.

Which means I better get out there again because Starbucks is just not doing the trick for this sleepy-head.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

P.S. I also suspect some of my sleepiness can be due to excessive cupcake consumption. ;)

I totally understand exactly what you're saying. Everyonce ina while I need a break too - and yep, I also catch myself sleeping more when I'm on a break. tke your time, enjoy that Starbucks & the cupcakes...just hope back on the workout train when you're ready :)

The one time I was that tired was when I was training for my first Goofy. I was so tired I felt like I slept 10 hours and woke up more tired than when I went to sleep. I even told my doctor who ran all sorts of blood tests but everything was fine. I thought maybe I was anemic but that didn't pan out (though I did start taking a multivitamin a few weeks before going in to the doctor). Still can't say what it was. Sorry, I am no help. I say sleep more if you need it and everything will probably balance out eventually.

YES! I believe the lack of working out does make us tired. Since I have been sitting on my butt for the last month studying I definitely feel more exhausted, lazy and just blah than when I was running a lot. Seriously, I sit all day and I have less energy - that makes no sense. Thank god for Starbucks!

Completely agree! It's happened to me many times ... over the holidays, or after a marathon or when the weather's not great, etc. It's a vicious circle. You rest more which makes you more tired which makes you want to rest even more ...
It all makes me want to eat crappy food, too, which also makes me tired & lethargic! Try eating more protein and doing light exercise - swimming, elliptical trainer, etc.

Yup, lack of exercise affects your quality of sleep. However, you might want to check with your Doc and do a blood panel to check to see if everything else is okay. A friend of mine did the blood panel before starting her training for Kona last year and found out she was extremely iron-deficient, to the point where the doc was worried about her health. So, might be good to check it out.

YES! I always sleep better and need less sleep when I'm consistently working out.

I also think events like Goofy take more out of you than you think they do.

I totally think that lack of exercise has an effect on your metabolism which is probably causing you to be more sleepy than usual.

We'll see what happens when spring comes back around!
